PIL filed before the Supreme Court for direction to cancel India–Pakistan Asia Cup T20 Match
A Public Interest Litigation under Article 32 of the Constitution of India has been filed by Adv.Sneha Rani & Adv. Abhishek Verma & Adv Anas chaudhary on behalf of four law students led by Ms. Urvashi Jain. The Petition seeks urgent directions to cancel the India–Pakistan T20 cricket match scheduled to be held in Dubai on September 14, 2025, as part of the Asia Cup T20 League. The Petition has been drawn by Adv Ms. Sneha Rani, Adv Abhishek Verma & Md. Anas Choudhary.
In Addition, the Petitioners have also sought direction for Implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025.
Grounds
The Petition asserts that organising a cricket match with Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, in which Indian civilians and soldiers sacrificed their lives, sends a message inconsistent with national dignity and public sentiment. It is argued that engaging in sports with a nation that shelters terrorism undermines the morale of the Armed Forces and causes anguish to the families of martyrs and victims of terrorism.
The Petitioners contend that cricket cannot be placed above national interest, the lives of citizens, or the sacrifices of armed personnel. The continuation of this match is detrimental to the security, integrity, and morale of the nation.
The matter has been filed before the Supreme Court of India and is expected to be listed for hearing shortly. The petition has been filed as diary number 51856/2025 and seek urgent hearing given the ongoing admission processes.
